Al Mashat meets with World Bank Group to promote investment in human capital

Al Mashat emphasized Egypt and the World Bank Group’s strategic partnership, pointing out that WBG contributed to many projects aimed at enhancing the government’s efforts to elevate the lives of citizens

Minister of International Cooperation (MoIC), Rania Al Mashat, recently met with World Bank Group (WBG) officials to discuss joint cooperation frameworks between the two as part of national efforts to boost investment in enhancing human capital.

Al Mashat met with Keiko Miwa, World Bank’s Regional Director for Human Development, in the presence of Marina Wes, the World Bank Group’s Country Director for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti.

Investing in human capital comes at the top of Egypt’s priorities to enhance people’s lives, said the minister, elaborating on the “Decent Life” initiative that aims to develop rural communities.

Miwa commented on MoIC’s recent Egypt - International Cooperation Forum (ICF): “Engaging for Impact,” expressing her praise about the forum’s discussions as enriching international cooperation and development financing and enhances joint cooperation to achieve sustainable development.

The meeting included discussions on joint cooperation for investment in human capital through projects and initiatives in several sectors, and the future priorities that come within the framework of the joint cooperation strategy, according to a statement on Monday.

Al Mashat emphasized Egypt and the World Bank Group’s strategic partnership, pointing out that WBG contributed to many projects aimed at enhancing the government’s efforts to elevate the lives of citizens.

The support included development financing worth $500 million to support the country’s efforts to develop the health sector through Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS), as well as social protection and social housing programs.

The MoIC and World Bank Group ongoing development cooperation portfolio currently amounts to $5.8 billion, financing 17 projects across various sectors, including education, health, transportation, social solidarity, petroleum, housing, sanitation, local development, and environment.
