Local manufacturing and extractive industries index reported a decrease of 2.55 percent, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, recording at 96.45 during October 2020 compared to 98.97 recorded during September 2020 states the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Using an updated index methodology, the agency is using the base year of 2012/2013 and level of main industrial activity indices according to the Industrial Activity Index (ISIC Rev.4), taking into account the monthly index for producer prices based on 2012/2013 data.

CAPMAS states that the standard number for the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, and medical devices saw a jump of 6.59 percent, reaching 98.18, during October 2020 compared to September 2020.

The manufacture of non-metallic products, namely bricks, glass, and cement, reached 83.66 during October 2020, a 3.61 percent increase, compared to 80.74 in September.

The beverage industry reported 150.19 during October 2020 compared to 187.49 in September, a 19.90 percent dip due to drop in demand during winter season.

Manufacture of chemical materials and products decreased by 2.67 percent, reaching 107.84 compared to 110.80 in September. This was attributed to decrease in volume of production and dependence on stock.
