Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced a slight rise in the country’s unemployment rate for the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, reaching 6.7%, up by 0.2% from the previous quarter.
The data reveals that Egypt’s labor force expanded by 2.5%, reaching 32.218 million, compared to 31.423 million in Q2.
The urban workforce comprises 14.19 million people, while rural areas contribute 18.028 million. Among genders, men account for 26.432 million of the labor force, with women making up 5.786 million.
The increase in labor force figures is attributed to the addition of 694,000 employed individuals, alongside a 101,000 increase in the number of unemployed.
This rise brought the total number of unemployed individuals to 2.159 million, of which 1.106 million are men and 1.053 million are women.
Unemployment rates remained steady among men at 4.2% for the quarter, while the rate for women saw a slight increase to 18.2% from 17.3% in Q2.
