Egypt’s non-oil exports to the European Union (EU) jumped by 38% in the first 8 months of 2021, recording at €4.1 billion compared to €2.9 billion the same period in 2020, said Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea on Saturday.
The climb in export growth was attributed to an increase in demand for Egyptian products in 23 EU countries, most notably inclines in demand by Italy (51.6%), Spain (77.5%), Germany (22%), and the Netherlands (30.7%).
The rise in Egyptian exports to the European Union reflects the efforts targeting the development of Egyptian exports to foreign markets, and the ministry's keenness to enhance trade cooperation with the European Union as it is Egypt's first trading partner, explained the trade minister over the weekend.

Egyptian exports of plastic products, fertilizers, aluminum, iron and steel, and organic chemicals recorded a remarkable increase, stated an official statement which quoted head of the Egyptian Commercial Services Ahmed Maghawry.
Fruits, electrical equipment, textiles and clothing, glass products, cotton, and ceramics were also highly demanded in the 27 EU countries, added the statement.
Trade between Egypt and the G20 countries (which includes several EU countries) climbed by 19.4% to hit $36 billion in the first half of 2021 (1H 2021), the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced last week.

In 2020, the EU covered 24.5% of Egypt's trade volume, according to the European Commission.
Total trade in goods between the EU and Egypt amounted to €24.5 billion in 2020. EU imports from Egypt totaled €6.4 billion, comprising mainly fuel and mining products, chemicals, agricultural and raw materials, as well as textiles and clothes.
