Egypt’s engineering exports jumped by 43% in the first 9 months of 2021, recording 2.284 billion, compared to $1.595 billion during the same period in 2020, revealed the Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EECE).

The monthly report of the Export Council for Engineering Industries revealed that exports in September increased by 35% to reach $320.6 million, compared to $274.5 million in August and $237.8 million in September 2020.

Within the sector, the exports of electrical appliances increased by 20%, automobile components increased by 54%, cables by 100% increase, household appliances by 59%, and Electrical and electronics by 47%.

The increase in engineering product exports can be attributed to the continued positive performance of the production sectors in Egypt, explained Mai Helmy, Executive Director of Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EECE), also pointing out how Egyptian products received a competitive edge during China’s ongoing shipping crisis.

The countries who received an increase in Egyptian engineering exports were Europe (the United Kingdom - Turkey - Slovakia - France - Germany - Spain – Greece), Asia (the UAE - Saudi Arabia - Iraq - Jordan - Kuwait - Lebanon – China), and Africa (Morocco - Libya - Sudan - Kenya - Nigeria – Tunisia).

Helmy highlighted that the EECE continues to support engineering exports through direct exhibitions and promotional missions abroad and the recruitment of buyers' missions.

During the pandemic, the government launched an immediate payment initiative to support the export industry. In early October, Trade Minister Nevine Gamea noted that the initiative had begun its 3rd phase after having issued over 330 certificates worth EGP 874.8 million in the previous phases.
