Egypt merged the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development with the Ministry of International Cooperation. This is the third time these ministers have been merged, to achieve greater integration and efficiency.

The planning and international cooperation ministries were previously combined between 2011 and 2014. Rania Al-Mashat will be in charge of the newly merged ministry, Al-Mashat has been a member of Egypt’s cabinet since 2018, serving as the Minister of International Cooperation since December 2019. She previously held the position of Minister of Tourism from January 2018 to December 2019 and has over 20 years of international experience, she has expertise in central banking, financial systems, monetary policy, international cooperation, sustainable development, and climate finance.

Ministry of Planning & Economic Development

The axis of the work of the Ministry of Planning is concerned with drafting long-term, medium-term, and short-term sustainable development plans. It is also concerned with setting the overall goals of economic development. Proposing economic policies to achieve those goals, formulating the national sustainable development strategy, and following up on its implementation.

Ministry of International Cooperation

The Ministry of International Cooperation aims to enhance cooperation with international development partners to support the national development agenda, ministries, government agencies, universities, research centers, the private sector, and civil society will benefit from these international partnerships.

Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation

The current merger reflects the government's ongoing efforts to streamline its bureaucracy and achieve its economic development goals.

The merging of both ministries aims to achieve governmental integration between the files of the two ministries and ensure the efficient allocation of resources and faster implementation of development projects.

Another potential outcome of this merger is a stronger focus on attracting investment. With international cooperation directly linked to economic development goals, the new ministry might prioritize attracting investments that align with Egypt's development plans. This could lead to more targeted investment and a greater impact on job creation and economic growth
