Christian Lindmeier, the official spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasized the imperative need for a ceasefire to support hospitals in the Gaza Strip and assist WHO teams in the region. Lindmeier called for an independent investigation into the attacks on hospitals in Gaza.
During a Zoom meeting with Cairo News Channel, the WHO spokesperson stated that contacts are underway with various parties to ensure the delivery of essential needs to the people of Gaza.
He underscored the necessity for a declared ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, noting that while conflicts are occurring worldwide, such incidents have not occurred in densely populated areas like Gaza.
The WHO official confirmed to Cairo News Channel that Egypt is playing an extremely active role in preparing its hospitals to receive the injured from the Gaza Strip.
Speaking further, the WHO spokesperson emphasized that attacking hospitals constitutes a violation of international law, and patients must be kept safe. He disclosed that WHO has deployed 30 medical teams to manage logistical matters in the Gaza Strip.
