- When Do the Procedures for Inaugurating the President Begin?
The procedures for inaugurating the President for a new presidential term commence on the same day, April 2, not April 3, as his victory announcement in the 2018 elections was published in the Official Gazette on April 2, 2018. According to Article 41 of the Constitution, the current presidential term ends on April 1, 2024, and the President must take the oath before commencing his term.
The session witnesses the procedural swearing-in of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for a new presidential term, which starts the day after the constitutional oath, on April 3, according to Article 140 of the Constitution.
The inauguration procedures take place before the House of Representatives at its new headquarters in the administrative capital. The President assumes the duties of the country for a term of six Gregorian years, and the session is attended by the members of the House of Representatives as stipulated by the Constitution.
According to Article 144 of the Constitution, the President must take the constitutional oath before assuming office before the House of Representatives, as follows: "I swear by Almighty God to sincerely preserve the republican system, respect the Constitution and the law, safeguard the interests of the people entirely, and maintain the independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the homeland."
After the session, el-Sisi will raise Egypt's flag at the monument in the People's Square in the New Administrative Capital, marking the inauguration of the first phase of the capital's project. The activities of the House of Representatives will then return to its old headquarters in downtown Cairo after the oath-taking session in the New Administrative Capital, until all preparations for the new headquarters are completed.
El-Sisi's performance of the constitutional oath at the new parliament headquarters signals the beginning of the new republic, which will bring new visions for the political and executive work in the coming period, indicating Egypt's path towards progress from the New Administrative Capital.
