The Coordination Committee of Party's Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP) in Egypt has been vigilantly monitoring the 2024 Presidential Elections since the opening of polling stations at 9:00 am. With nearly 20,000 committee members deployed across all 27 governorates, they report a massive and orderly turnout without any irregularities affecting the electoral process.
The Haya Karima Foundation, too, has lauded the discipline and organization observed during the initial hours of the Presidential elections. Their representatives noted a significant and organized election process during the first day, emphasizing a considerable turnout at polling stations.
Ahmed Bendari, the executive director of the National Election Authority (NEA) and Head of the Central Operations Room, provided insights into the citizens' intensity at polling stations. The Operations Room, through audio and video calls with heads of polling stations in various governorates, confirmed the regularity of the voting process, both in general and sub-stations.
Notably, committees overseeing expatriate voting reported the largest turnout across various governorates, indicating a strong participation since the opening of the presidential elections. Women's stations also witnessed high turnouts, marking a diverse and engaged electorate.
The 2024 presidential election marks the fifth multi-party election in modern Egyptian history. Its significance lies in Egypt's path towards democratic transformation, party pluralism, and increased political competitiveness, following a year and a half of comprehensive national dialogue involving all components of Egyptian political, union, and civil society.
At 9 AM, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in office since 2014, cast his vote, setting an example for civic duty. First Lady Entissar Amer joined him at the same polling station in Heliopolis, Cairo. Other notable participants included Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Qabbaj, Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmi, and Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI).
Citizens, both young and elderly, have demonstrated a robust commitment to their constitutional right by actively participating in the voting process across polling stations in Egypt. The 2024 Presidential Elections for citizens within the country follow the conclusion of the three-day voting process for Egyptians abroad in early December.
The electoral competition involves four contenders: incumbent President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Farid Zahran (President of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party), Abdel-Sanad Yamama (President of Al Wafd Party), and Hazem Omar (President of the Republican People's Party). Each candidate has presented their vision for improving people's lives in the upcoming six-year presidential term.
The final result of the elections is scheduled for announcement on December 18, barring the need for a run-off. Voting within the country will continue until December 12.
