Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Amr Talaat, stated that Telecommunications’ contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased from 3.2% six years ago to 5.8% in FY2023/2024.
Egypt's outsourcing exports grew by 54% in a year. Over recent years, five global companies were attracted to manufacture mobile devices and tablets in Egypt, with a value-added exceeding 40%.
This announcement was made during his speech at the Tech Heritage - IBM Business Partners Forum and the company’s 70th anniversary celebration in Egypt.
Talaat highlighted that Egypt's ranking in fixed internet speed in Africa jumped from 40th place six years ago to first place two years ago, maintaining this position to date.
He also noted that Egypt's classification on the World Bank’s Government Digital Transformation Readiness Index advanced from category “C” to category “A,” and Egypt is now among the top 12 countries in cybersecurity.
He pointed to the growth of the outsourcing industry in Egypt, where the number of specialists exporting digital services worldwide increased from 90,000 to over 140,000 within two years.
"The outsourcing industry has expanded to encompass a variety of fields, starting with call centers established 25 years ago and now including software services and high-value fields such as electronic circuit design, semiconductors, and embedded software for automotive and other advanced sectors," he added.
He also noted that Egypt advanced 49 positions on the Government AI Readiness Index. Since the launch of the Digital Egypt Innovation Centers project in 2019, the number of innovation centers has grown from three to a center and tech incubator in every governorate, totaling 23 centers across Egypt to date.
