Content creators in Egypt were taken by surprise when Google announced a significant change regarding payment methods for their earnings. Starting May 1, 2025, the company will transition payments for Egyptian residents from US dollars to the Egyptian pound.

This shift is part of Google’s broader strategy to disburse revenues in local currencies worldwide.

This decision affects a wide range of content creators who rely on these platforms for their income.

In a notification sent to creators utilizing services such as AdSense, YouTube’s AdSense, AdMob, or Google Ads Manager, the company stated, “We will no longer pay earnings in US dollars in Egypt.”

Social media has been a buzz since the notice appeared, with many users questioning the rationale behind the decision and its impact on creators.

The USD is often seen as is a more stable option for generating profits over both the short and long term compared to a majority of currencies.

Concerns have been raised that this change could have consequences for content creators, potentially leading to a drastic reduction in their earnings. For Egyptians, whom have experienced significant fluctuations in the EGP’s value against the greenback in the past few years, the impact of Google’s decision could be profound.

Posts on various websites and groups have already begun to question whether to migrate to alternative platforms that continue to offer payments in USD, or alternative methods to continue receiving USD through 3rd party means.
