President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, addressing economic challenges, and advancing priorities for developing nations.
The official presidency spokesperson added that the meeting also included discussions between the two presidents on ways to enhance bilateral relations, recognizing the importance of strengthening cooperation given the convergence of their interests and positions on various issues.
Following this meeting, the two presidents signed a joint statement, marking the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership that serves the interests and aspirations of both nations.
President El-Sisi expressed gratitude for Brazil's invitation to the summit, highlighting it as a testament to Egypt’s importance in the Middle East and Africa. He also commended Brazil for organizing the summit with a focus on issues critical to developing countries, including the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative aimed at addressing food insecurity and social inequities.
At the G20 Summit, President El-Sisi is expected to address pressing global economic challenges with a particular focus on the priorities of developing nations. He will highlight Egypt's efforts in eradicating poverty and hunger, emphasizing the importance of international initiatives like the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Social inclusion, a cornerstone of Egypt’s development policies, will also be a key theme, as the President advocates for integrating marginalized communities into broader economic frameworks.
Reforms in global governance institutions will feature prominently in his speeches, with calls for a more equitable and representative system that addresses the needs of developing nations. This marks Egypt's fourth participation in G20 summits, following its involvement in 2016 under China's presidency, 2019 in Japan, and 2023 in India.
