Honeywell’s Regional President for the Middle East and Africa, Khaled Hashem, announced that a feasibility study for the sustainable aviation fuel production project in Egypt has been completed, in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
He added that the discussions on the next steps are currently underway, according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
During a meeting with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, Hashem highlighted that Egypt has a unique opportunity to become the first country in the Middle East and Africa to produce sustainable aviation fuel.
The meeting also explored the possibility of implementing various joint projects between the petroleum sector and Honeywell in the areas of green fuel and emissions reduction.
In November, Badawi said that Egypt aims to increase its natural gas production by 20% to reach 1 billion cubic feet per day, adding “We are currently taking steps to work with our partners to ensure an environment that encourages expansion in production from existing fields, as well as in exploration and supply to markets.”
Badawi participated as a keynote speaker in the opening ministerial session of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Conference (ADIPEC 2024), where he stressed the importance of Egypt’s contribution to the energy export sector, including oil, with a focus on exploring gas and supplying it to markets.
