Egypt and the EU discuss a €1 billion MFA program to support structural reforms and economic growth.

In line with ongoing efforts to strengthen economic partnerships with the European Union, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, held a video conference with EU officials to discuss the progress of the first phase of the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) program. Under this initiative, the EU is providing €1 billion in concessional financing to support the implementation of structural reforms aimed at stimulating Egypt’s private sector. The meeting was also attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Mashat discussed with EU officials the ongoing steps to execute the structural reform matrix, coordinated between the ministry and relevant national bodies, including the Central Bank, the Ministries of Finance, Social Solidarity, Labor, Investment and Foreign Trade, Electricity and Renewable Energy, as well as the Competition Protection Authority and the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center.

The two sides also reviewed preparations for the upcoming technical mission, expected to arrive at the end of September, to continue discussions between the EU and relevant Egyptian authorities.

Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of the structural reform program in opening opportunities for the private sector, enhancing competitiveness, improving the business environment, strengthening macroeconomic resilience to external shocks, and supporting the green transition while paving the way for comprehensive and sustainable development.

She added that supporting structural reforms is a key focus of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation through its collaborative relationships with multilateral and bilateral development partners, ultimately contributing to the country’s efforts to build a competitive, investment-attractive economy and drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
