Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) hosted the inaugural session of its advisory council for the recently launched Entrepreneurship and Startups Unit.
The unit aims to facilitate communication with entrepreneurs, enabling GAFI to better understand their challenges and review proposals to enhance Egypt's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The meeting, chaired by GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba and Hossam Abdel Qader, Head of the Central Entrepreneurship Department, saw the participation of key stakeholders from the private sector.
Comprising representatives exclusively from emerging companies and influential figures in the entrepreneurship landscape, the council was led by Mohamed Fahmy, co-founder of Logic Management Consulting Group, with Samir Al-Alayli, Chair of the Egyptian Angels investors Association (Malaikah-EGYBAN), and Ahmed Tarek, chair of Allianz Middle East, joining him.
Fahmy shared plans to finalize the council's action plan in the near future, which will include recommendations geared towards bolstering Egypt's entrepreneurship environment and aligning entrepreneurial activities with the development strategy outlined in “Egypt Vision 2030”.
Last month, GAFI inaugurated the headquarters of the Entrepreneurship and Emerging Companies Unit and rolled out its digital platform.
Heiba affirmed the Authority's commitment to collaborating with the advisory council to foster an entrepreneurial culture within governmental structures, pledging to coordinate efforts with all stakeholders to provide necessary support for the sector and foster partnerships with developed nations.
