The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Malaysia during 2023 amounted to about $777 million, according to a statement released by Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The most prominent commodities exchanged between the two countries include fresh oranges, natural calcium phosphate, and strawberries.

This came during the meeting between Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samir, and Malaysian Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Johari Abdul Ghani, to explore ways of enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Maait pointed out that more than 26 Malaysian companies operate in Egypt in various sectors, led by the Malaysian National Petroleum and Energy Company Petronas and the energy company Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA).

Samir said that the Malaysian delegation will visit the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) tomorrow to explore opportunities available to establish a Malaysian palm oil storage project for re-export to the markets of the Middle East and the African continent.

Minister Samir stressed Egypt's keenness to enhance joint industrial and investment cooperation with Malaysia in various fields.

The Minister pointed out the importance of establishing direct airlines between Egypt and Malaysia, which would contribute to boosting the Malaysian tourism movement to Egypt.

This airline also will facilitate the air transport of Egyptian exports of fresh vegetables and fruits to the Malaysian market.
