The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and COMESA countries increased by 24% in 2022, according to CAPMAS

The total value of Egypt’s exports to Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) countries increased by 15.6% in 2022, to reach $3,544 million, compared to $3,066 million in 2021, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and COMESA countries increased by 24% in 2022, according to CAPMAS.
Libya, Sudan, Kenya, Tunisia and Djibouti are the top 5 COMESA countries that Egypt exports to, accounting for 84.8% of the bloc’s total imports.
Libya imported goods worth $1,215 million from Egypt, while Sudan's imports amounted to $929 million. Kenya followed with imports valued at $356 million, Tunisia with $306 million, and Djibouti with $173 million.
The most significant export commodities for Egypt to the bloc include plastics ($335 million), fertilizers ($305 million), and fuel and mineral oils ($210 million).
Furthermore, Egypt's total imports from COMESA countries in 2022 amounted to $1,887 million, showcasing a substantial increase of 43.1% compared to $1,319 million in 2021.
The top five COMESA countries from which Egypt imports are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Kenya, and Libya, accounting for 92.6% of the bloc's total exports.
Egypt's imports from Congo reached $525 million, making it the primary exporter to Egypt. Sudan followed closely with exports valued at $505 million, while Zambia exported goods worth $314 million. Kenya’s exports to Egypt, amounted to $308 million, and Libya’s exports, amounted to $89 million.
