Egypt’s National Dialogue has released a report summarizing the recommendations and outcomes of 13 subcommittees covering different areas, including politics, economics, and society.
Among the list of economic reforms put forward by the dialogue are the following proposals:
● Redevelopment and planning of existing industrial zones, updating targeted activities, and reviewing the export gap.
● The role of the state in providing production, pricing requirements, and supporting credit and debt.
● Expanding the issuance of licenses, setting and promoting a tourism agenda, as well as creating new tourism patterns.
● The importance of developing easy and simplified investment guides in various fields, expanding the establishment of public and private free zones and increasing their number, and activating some articles of the investment law.
● Increasing support for small businesses by launching an investment fund for startups and a national strategy to boost entrepreneurship;
The National Dialogue was launched in May, almost a year after it was first announced by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. It brings together political parties to discuss the country’s political roadmap and economic priorities.
The dialogue witnessed participation from distinguished and diverse attendees with experience, specialization, and stakeholders, taking into account the representation of points of view and political balance, as 65 parties of various political orientations, and more than 20 representatives of embassies and consulates participated in the sessions over the course of 3 months, with an overall attendance of 7200 individuals.
