The Export Council for Food Industries announced the resounding success of the Egyptian food industries sector in securing top global rankings for the export of 13 manufactured food commodities, according to data released by the United Nations International Trade Center (UN-ITC).
Notably, Egypt claimed the first position in the export of frozen strawberries and baking powder.
Mr. Hani Barazi, the council's head, hailed this achievement as a historic milestone for Egyptian food exports, which amounted to $4.1 billion in 2022, accounting for 13% of Egypt's non-petroleum exports.
Egypt also secured the top spot globally in exporting frozen strawberries, baking powder, dried onions (fourth position), seeds and vegetable oils (fourth position), water-soluble kelp (fifth position), live yeasts (sixth position), pickled and preserved olives (seventh position), and dates (eighth position).
Furthermore, Egypt ranked eighth globally in exporting preserved vegetables and fruits without vinegar, ninth in exporting processed cheese, preserved tomatoes without vinegar, ketchup, and aromatic blends for soft drinks.
These outstanding results are a testament to the efforts of Egyptian food manufacturers and exporters, as well as the unwavering support of the political leadership in promoting export activities and enhancing the country's infrastructure and agricultural investment projects.
Egypt's commitment to achieving food security and generating export surpluses on a global scale has garnered recognition worldwide, reinforcing confidence in the Egyptian economy and its capacity for growth and international competitiveness.
The council extends its congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Trade and Industry, along with all the employees of Egyptian companies involved in food production and manufacturing.
The council emphasized that these achievements serve as a strong impetus to continue its collaborative efforts with Egyptian state institutions and exporting companies to access new export markets and increase the export share in existing markets, in line with the highest global standards of food safety and export logistics.
In recent years, Egypt has made significant strides in diversifying its economy and expanding its global footprint in various sectors.
The government's steadfast commitment to economic reforms, investment in infrastructure, and supportive policies for the private sector has fueled Egypt's economic growth and enhanced its international competitiveness.
The food industries sector's remarkable performance in global exports further reinforces Egypt's position as a reliable and dynamic player in the global market.
