The Cairo Governorate has announced a new increase in transportation fares for public transport buses after the decision to raise the price of diesel by one Egyptian pound, without raising the prices of gasoline.
The Governorate has decided to increase the fares for large buses by one Egyptian pound per ticket, while the fares for regular mini-buses have been raised by about 50 piasters. Specifically, the new fares are as follows: first, the fare for a regular mini-bus has increased from 6 to 6.5 Egyptian pounds; second, the fare for an air-conditioned mini-bus has increased from 10.5 to 11.5 Egyptian pounds; and third, the fare for an air-conditioned bus has increased from 12.5 to 13.5 Egyptian pounds, with an increase of one pound.
The increase in transportation fares is expected to help offset some of the rising costs of diesel and other inputs for transportation companies.
It may also encourage the use of more energy-efficient modes of transportation, such as bicycles and electric vehicles.
In recent years, the Egyptian government has taken a number of steps to modernize and improve the country's transportation infrastructure.
This has included the construction of new highways, bridges, and metro lines, as well as the expansion of bus and rail networks. These efforts have helped to reduce congestion on the country's roads and improve access to transportation for millions of people.
