The Egyptian Cabinet approved an MoU with Norway to study connecting Egypt’s electricity grid to Europe via Italy with a 3 gigawatts capacity. This was approved during the cabinet’s meeting.

The MoU was signed between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co (EETC) and the Norwegian Scatec Company.

During the meeting, the cabinet also approved the Ministry of Transport’s request regarding completing the procedures for issuing a law granting a commitment to build and develop the superstructure, use, manage, operate, exploit, maintain and re-deliver a multi-purpose station within the scope of the Safaga sea port.

This comes within Egypt’s framework develop ports and become a global trade and logistics hub by taking advantage of its strategic location on the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

Earlier this week, under its Fayoum Wastewater Expansion Program, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has awarded contracts to Al Kharafi & Sons and Samcrete.

Egypt’s Samcrete was awarded two contracts valued at €36.6 million to build new sewage networks and pump stations in Fayoum. Al Kharafi will design and build a new wastewater treatment plant with a 35k cbm/d capacity in a €23.9 million contract.
