Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, met with the Iraqi Minister of Environment, Nazar Al-Ebadi, on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for 2023, which took place in Washington, D.C.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Mashat discussed areas of common cooperation between the two sides, and referred to the results achieved during the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27, chaired by Egypt last November.

The two Ministers also discussed Egyptian-Iraqi cooperation in various relevant areas through the Joint High Committee of Egypt and Iraq, and emphasized the political leadership's keenness to strengthen areas of cooperation between the two sides.

Minister Al-Mashat also discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Environment the preparations for the second session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint High Committee, following the success of the first session held in 2020, which resulted in the signing of 15 agreements for mutual cooperation in various fields of development and the organization of an economic trade forum between the private sectors of both countries.

She stated that the second session of the Joint Committee, which comes in implementation of the directives of the leaders of both countries, will build on the results of the first session to enhance the common relations between the two countries and achieve mutual developmental objectives.

The Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation added that Egyptian-Iraqi relations have witnessed significant development over the past years, stemming from the keenness of the leaders of both countries to deepen developmental partnerships in various economic, commercial, and investment fields, as well as opening up prospects for partnership between the private sectors of both countries at the bilateral level, in addition to enhancing tripartite joint cooperation between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.

Egypt and Iraq have been building stronger relations in recent years, with both countries seeking to increase cooperation and partnerships in various fields.

Last November, Egypt chaired the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27, and both countries have been working together to address environmental challenges.

The first session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint High Committee in 2020 resulted in 15 agreements for mutual cooperation, and the upcoming second session is expected to further enhance the relationship between the two countries.
