The initial ceasefire, which commenced on Friday, was scheduled for four days.
In a diplomatic move, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi sent a handwritten message to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani on Tuesday. The message, delivered by the Egyptian ambassador to Doha, was aimed at discussing and advancing efforts related to the current temporary ceasefire in Gaza.
A reliable source informed Al Qahera News that high-level officials from Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Israel were set to convene in Doha on Tuesday to deliberate on the extension of the ongoing ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Subsequently, the channel reported that the head of Egypt's General Intelligence Directorate had arrived in the Qatari capital for discussions with the heads of the CIA and Mossad, indicating a multilateral diplomatic engagement.
The initial ceasefire, which commenced on Friday, was scheduled for four days. However, an extension for an additional two days was agreed upon, contingent on Hamas releasing 10 hostages daily in exchange for 30 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
The terms of the original agreement included the exchange of 50 Israeli hostages for 150 Palestinian detainees over the four days. Additionally, provisions involved enhancing aid delivery to the Gaza Strip and allowing entry to the northern section. Notably, the released captives from both sides comprised women and children below the age of 19.
Hamas was reported to be holding 120 civilians and 119 soldiers as hostages, while Israel has approximately 5,000 Palestinians in detention. The ongoing diplomatic discussions aim to navigate the complexities of the situation and find a sustainable resolution.
