Tharwat will be taking the role as Bank ABC is in the final stages of its acquisition of BLOM Bank Egypt
The Arab Banking Corporation (Bank ABC) announced the appointment of its new Managing Director and CEO for its Egyptian franchise, hiring HSBC’s previous Head of Global Banking in Egypt, Amr Tharwat.
“Amr brings a diverse strategic and operational perspective to Bank ABC Egypt. He has an excellent track record, and we are confident that he will be a great addition to our team in Egypt,” Bank ABC Egypt Chairman Yousef Al Awadi commented.
Tharwat will be taking the role as Bank ABC is in the final stages of its acquisition of BLOM Bank Egypt, after acquiring a 99.5% stake of BLOM Bank’s Egyptian assets in early August, and will be part of the company’s work toward integrating BLOM into the Bank ABC fold.
The merger is still subject to regulatory approval and expected to conclude in Q1 2022.
Most recently, Tharwat was Managing Director, Deputy Head of Global Banking, and Head of Corporate Banking MENAT for HSBC out of Dubai, the release added.
