Egypt and Romania signed five cooperation agreements and a joint committee protocol during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Romanian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, held in Bucharest, according to a statement by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

Among the agreements was a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in investment, signed between the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Trade. An executive work plan for agricultural cooperation and land reclamation was also finalized.

The session was co-chaired by Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, and Romanian Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Stefan-Radu Oprea, marking the first such meeting since 2019.

Additionally, the Egyptian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) and Romania's Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism signed an MoU focused on developing MSMEs.

Another agreement was reached for the installation of gas distribution pipelines, while Town Gas from Romania and Egypt’s Cis-Gas agreed to collaborate on manufacturing products for the oil and gas industry.

During the session, the two sides signed the joint committee protocol and discussed investment opportunities for Romanian companies in Egypt, especially in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and information technology.

Minister Al-Mashat emphasized the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a key investment hub for companies aiming to expand into the Middle East, Africa, and the Arab world.

The two countries also explored cooperation within the framework of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to promote green transition efforts and emissions reduction.
