The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has signed a joint declaration of intent with the government of Bavaria, Germany, to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of hydrogen.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, emphasized that the declaration focuses on collaboration and exchange in hydrogen trade, including identifying production potentials and expanding logistical pathways for hydrogen.

It also covers hydrogen technologies, market development, and research and development in various projects related to hydrogen production chains. The use of renewable energies to produce green hydrogen is a key component of this joint effort.

Esmat said that the signing of this declaration aligns with Egypt’s adoption of a comprehensive national strategy for producing low-carbon hydrogen, seen as a promising energy source for the near future.

This was in the presence of Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, and Bavarian State Prime Minister, Markus Soder.

The two sides agreed that the cooperation will support and encourage knowledge exchange and mutual relations at the institutional level, particularly those coordinated through the chambers of commerce, industrial federations, and business organizations of both parties.

Both parties will establish a working group to coordinate and develop proposals for implementing the joint declaration. This group will also conduct dialogues and hold meetings with relevant stakeholders to set priorities and explore ways to achieve the declaration’s objectives.

The Office of Bavaria at the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Cairo will be responsible for coordinating the working group.

The Minister of Electricity pointed out the ambitious plans for the hydrogen sector, which aim to capture approximately 5-8% of the global tradable market by 2040.
