The annual inflation rate recorded 25.6% for the month of August 2024, compared to 39.7% for the same month of the previous year.
The general consumer price index reached 231.1 points for August 2024, recording monthly inflation of 1.9%, according to the latest data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics ( CAPMAS).
This came due to the increase in the vegetable group by 14.3%, the transportation services group by 14.9%, the postal services group by 6.0%, the household appliances group by 2.8%, the dairy, cheese and eggs group by 2.1%, the hospital services group by 2.8%, and the fish and seafood group. 1.4%, fruit group by 0.9%.
This is despite the decrease in the prices of the tobacco group by -0.1%, the prices of the cereals and bread group by -1.3%, the meat and poultry group by -1.5%, the oils and fats group by -0.9%, and the sugar by -0.1%.

According to CAPMAS, the Food and Beverages section recorded an increase of 1.8%, the clothing and footwear department recorded an increase of 1.1%, and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel section recorded an increase of 0.7%.
Additionally, the Furniture, Fixtures, Home Equipment and Maintenance section recorded an increase of 1.7%, and the health care department recorded an increase of 3.4%.
Annual change (August 2024 compared to August 2023)
The food and beverage section recorded an increase of 28.1%, the clothing and footwear department recorded an increase of 25.4%, and the health care department recorded an increase of (25.6%).
Additionally, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel section recorded an increase of 12.5%, and the Furniture, Fixtures, Home Equipment and Maintenance section recorded an increase of 26.0%.
