Egypt's jewelry & gemstone exports increase by 118% during 2024

Egypt's jewelry and gemstone exports increased by 118% from January to July 2024, reaching $1.526 billion, up from $700 million in 2023, according to the monthly report from the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory & Metallurgy Industries (ECBM).

The United Arab Emirates secured the top spot in jewelry and gemstone exports, experiencing a 287% increase to $909 million, compared to $235 million in 2023 as per the report.

Switzerland claimed the second position, with a 591% rise to $605 million, up from $88 million in 2023.

Jordan took the third spot, with exports hitting $3 million, reflecting an 8022% increase from $0.041 million in 2023.

Canada dropped to fourth place, witnessing a 99% decrease to $3 million, down from $372 million in 2023.

Turkey clinched the fifth spot, posting $1.476 million, marking a 19157% surge from $0.008 million in 2023.

In other news, The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced in August the extension of the deadline for receiving proceeds from gold jewelry exports to 75 days from the shipping date, a notable change from the previous timelines of seven or 30 working days.
