Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, at the government headquarters yesterday evening to discuss the status of medication availability in Egypt.

Al-Ghamrawi highlighted that the authority successfully increased the supply of several medicines to the market and is actively working to complete the supply of remaining medication types in the coming weeks.

Egypt has struggled with a significant medication shortage over the last few months, exacerbated by a foreign currency crisis that impacted pharmaceutical production and imports.

Al-Ghamrawi previously assured that the shortage crisis would be resolved within two months in an early August statement.

During their Sunday meeting, Madbouly stressed that resolving the medicine supply issue remains a top government priority, highlighting ongoing efforts to streamline customs processes and ensure the availability of raw materials for pharmaceutical production.

The meeting also addressed the authority's cooperation with the World Health Organization and progress in digital transformation and mechanization in drug manufacturing, as well as its efforts to support the pharmaceutical industry in accordance with international standards.

Al-Ghamrawi discussed efforts to localize modern technology in drug production, in line with the authority’s framework to keep pace with the latest technological developments in the world.

In his weekly press conference last Thursday, Madbouly revealed an EGP 10 billion allocation to the Unified Procurement Authority to stabilize the pharmaceutical market.

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk also recently disclosed that EGP 26.7 billion will be dedicated to supporting health initiatives and increasing medicine and medical supplies.
