Egypt raised electricity prices for homes by up to 50% during August, according to Reuters citing unnamed government source.
The rise in prices stemmed from multiple factors, including a surge in electricity segment prices exceeding 30%.
This was driven by heightened kilowatt-hour production costs, dollar’s price, and the government’s halt on the load-reducing plan until summer’s end, incurring a cost of around $1.2 billion.
The prices of new electricity segments came as follows:

The price of the first consumption segment from zero to 50 kilowatts is 68 piasters instead of 58 piasters, an increase of 17%.

The price of the second segment, from 51 kWh to 100 kWh, is 78 piasters instead of 68 piasters, an increase of 15%.

The price of the third segment from zero to 200 kWh, at 95 piasters instead of 83 piasters, an increase of 14%.

The price of the fourth segment, from 201 kWh to 350 kWh, is 155 piasters instead of 125 piasters, an increase of 24%.

The price of the fifth segment, from 350 kWh to 650 kWh, is 195 piasters instead of 140 piasters, an increase of 39%.

The price of the sixth segment, from more than 650 kWh to 1,000 kWh, is EGP 2.10 instead of 140 piasters, an increase of 50%.

The price of the seventh segment for more than 1,000 kilowatt-hours is calculated from scratch at EGP 2.23 instead of 165 piasters, an increase of 35%.
