Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, has confirmed that approximately EGP 44 billion has been allocated so far to finance the purchase of local wheat from farmers.

This comes as part of Egypt's commitment to supporting farmers and alleviating their burdens, to stimulate agricultural production and investment.

This is considered one of the priorities in the new budget, which has allocated EGP 40.5 billion to support productive and export activities, Maait added.

The minister explained that the new budget supports the objectives of achieving agricultural development, taking into account national projects for reclaiming desert lands and expanding the agricultural area.

This approach aims to meet the basic needs of citizens and achieve food security for Egypt.

He also pointed out that the state aims to increase the share of the agricultural sector in the gross domestic product and maximize the competitive capabilities of agricultural products in international markets, thus creating new job opportunities.

This will contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector to achieve the maximum possible return from production, in order to reduce the import gap and increase exports, which will lead to a reduction in poverty rates in rural areas, the finance minister confirmed.
