Egypt’s total local wheat supplies amount to 3.6M tons

He explained that 750 thousand tons of sugar were imported and 4 companies will provide about 250 thousand tons.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali Al-Moselhi, announced that Egypt has enough to cover the local market’s wheat needs for 5.3 months, until November 2, 2024.

Regarding local wheat supplies, Moselhi pointed out that the total local wheat supplies as of May 28 amounted to approximately 3.6 million tons.

He explained that 750 thousand tons of sugar were imported and 4 companies will provide about 250 thousand tons.

In light of this, the gap of 1 million tons of sugar will be filled, and Egypt will have a stock of that commodity sufficient until February 2025, until the arrival of the new crop of local production.

This came during a meeting with Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, to follow up on the availability of goods in markets.

The minister of supply confirmed that for cooking’s oil, the strategic balance covers 6.2 months until November 28.

As for frozen poultry, it is sufficient for 11.8 months until May 18, 2025.

Minister Moselhi further mentioned that the supply of fresh Sudanese meat will fulfill the requirements for 8.8 months until February 18, 2025.

 As for frozen meat, it will be available in adequate quantities until July 25, 2025.

 Additionally, the stocks of pasta and rice are expected to meet the demand for two months.

 To ensure a steady provision of daily quantities, the Holding Company for Food Industries will distribute them through consumer complexes.

Regarding the preparations for Eid Al-Adha and the availability of goods, Moselhi provided an update.

 He mentioned that a total of 20,000 fresh livestock have been imported through the Egyptian Sudanese Company.

In addition to the fresh livestock, there are also 5,000 refrigerated sheep being offered.

He pointed out that large quantities of basic commodities are scheduled to be pumped into the outlets of the Holding Company for Food Industries, amounting to 180,000 tons of packaged sugar, 60,000 tons of cooking oil, 15,000 tons of rice, and 20,000 tons of pasta.
