Egypt’s merchandise exports recorded $12.9 billion during the first 4 months of 2024 , compared to $11.7 billion during the same period in 2023, an increase of 10%, according to a statement by Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samir.

Samir provided an overview of the primary destinations for Egyptian merchandise exports. Notably, Saudi Arabia emerged as the largest receiving market, accounting for a value of $1.96 billion.

Following closely behind, Turkey recorded an import value of $1.76 billion, while Italy contributed $793.1 million to Egypt’s export market.

Additionally, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America demonstrated strong demand, with import values of $735 million and $716.2 million, respectively.

The minister pointed out that the most important export sectors that formed the structure of Egyptian merchandise exports during the first 4 months of 2024, included building materials worth $2.876 billion, food industries worth $2.1 billion, chemical products and fertilizers worth $1.976 billion, and agricultural crops worth $1.7 billion, engineering and electronic goods worth $1.701 billion, and ready-made clothing worth $855 million.

He highlighted the most prominent export items that experienced increased representation in Egyptian merchandise exports from January to April 2024: fresh and dried citrus fruits recorded $767 million, gold reached $650 million, nitrogen fertilizers amounted to $588.5 million, insulated wires and cables valued at $440 million, and oils recorded $362.4 million.

Samir expressed the Ministry’s objective for the upcoming phase, which is to enhance exports across all productive sectors to diverse foreign markets. This goal will aligne with the Egypt’s target of achieving approximately $100 billion in annual exports of Egyptian goods.
