Volume of trade exchange between Egypt & Russia hits $5.1B during 2023

The value of trade exchange between Egypt and Russia reached $5.1 billion during the period from January to November 2023, compared to $4.5 billion during the same period of 2022, with an increase of 14%, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

According to CAPMAS, during the first 11 months of 2023, the value of Egypt’s exports to Russia recorded $469 million, compared to $543 million in 2022, a decrease of 13.7%.

The most important commodities exported by Egypt to Russia was vegetables and fruits worth $380.3 million, plastics worth $20.3 million, oilseeds and fruits worth $10.3 million, machinery and electrical appliances worth $8.4 million, and dairy worth $7.4 million.

The value of Egypt’s imports from Russia reached $4.6 billion in 2023, compared to $3.9 billion in 2022, an increase of 17.5%, according to the data.

Egypt's most prominent commodities imported from Russia was grains worth $2.5 billion, fats and vegetable oils worth $475.2 million, iron and steel worth $555 million, fuel and mineral oils worth $350.2 million, wood and its products worth $276.7 million.

The value of Russian investments in Egypt recorded $141.2 million during the FY 2022/2023, Compared to $64.9 million during the FY 2021/2022, an increase of 117.6%.

This came in line with the meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin via video conference recently in a ceremony of pouring the first concrete into the foundation of the fourth power unit at Egypt’s El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.

The project to build Egypt's first nuclear power plant is being implemented by Rosatom State Corporation in accordance with the Russian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Agreement of 2015. Four power units with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts are expected to be built.
