FinMinistry’s e-payment center reports 607.3M transactions worth EGP 8.1trn since 2019

The FinMin underlined the stability of Egypt’s e-payment channels for taxes, growing a steady 30% with a reported EGP 1.9 trillion collected

Egypt’s Electronic Payment and Collection Center at the Ministry of Finance has accumulated over EGP 8.1 trillion through a staggering 607.3 million electronic transactions between May 2019 to November 2023.

According to the ministry, electronic payment service for state workers' benefits experienced a12% growth in that time, noting that the issuance of 4.2 million "Meeza" brand cards for workers' benefits was completed, with a 93% activation rate, totaling around 3.9 million cards.

Finance Minister Mohamed Maait highlighted the Customs Authority's electronic receipts which reached EGP 829.5 billion, a 24% growth after transitioning to the Nafeza “Window” payments platform.

The FinMin underlined the stability of Egypt’s e-payment channels for taxes, growing a steady 30% with a reported EGP 1.9 trillion collected.

Citizens' interest in settling government dues electronically through citizen payment surged by 36%, noting citizen payments at EGP 171.5 billion.

Government electronic collection machines ("GPOS") in various agencies brought in EGP 154.6 billion, while the government’s online electronic payment portal recorded EGP 1.5 billion.

There was a significant expansion in electronic collection services through companies integrated with the government electronic payment and collection center, with receipts reaching about EGP 2.9 billion. The total value of salary payments reached EGP 1.071 trillion.

Maait emphasized ongoing governance reviews for digital transformation systems, highlighting the continuous upgrades and addition of new procedures to enhance governance between the government electronic payment and collection center, the electronic collection system, and the Government General Financial Information System ("GFMIS") and the electronic billing system.

The FinMin affirmed the government's commitment to policies fostering financial inclusion across all sectors, noting that the focus on digitization aligns with national strategies aimed at transforming Egypt into an integrated digital state.
