Issa pointed to the increase in tourists’ traffic during October 2023 by 8% compared to last year. He added that October 2023 witnessed the second highest number of tourists visiting Egypt since October 2010.
There is an increase in inbound tourism to Egypt during the first weeks of November 2023, by a rate ranging from 5% to 10%, making it one of the best months for tourism, according to statements made by Issa at a press conference in the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
In terms of hotel operations, the number of closed rooms decreased from approximately 24,000 to 19,000, indicating a gradual recovery in the industry.
Earlier in October, the minister of tourism stated that Egypt aims to boost tourism and attract 30 million tourists annually by 2028.
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) reported in October, that Egypt's tourism revenues increased by 26.8%, reaching $13.6 billion in FY2022/2023, compared to $10.7 billion in FY2021/2022.
The number of inbound tourists increased by 35.6% to about 13.9 million tourists, the report wrote. Additionally, the number of nights spent by tourists in Egypt increased by 27.6% to record 146.1 million nights in FY 2022/2023.
