The Export Council for Food Industries, in collaboration with the Commercial Representation Office in Kampala, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and Counseil Consulting and Training Company, discussed the most important growth opportunities for food exports to Uganda.

"The interest in the Ugandan market comes within the framework of implementing the Egyptian state's vision to expand into the African market," said Mai Khairy, CEO of the Export Council for Food Industries.

Over the past period, the council, in cooperation with GIZ, has been working on the Africa Help Desk project to help companies enter African markets, where it addressed through various training programs the trade agreements and available opportunities in certain countries and the experiences of some successful companies in these markets.

According to Khairy, Uganda is an important country politically and economically for Egypt, especially with the clear interest of the Egyptian state in moving towards the African continent in general and the Nile Basin countries in particular.

The Export Council for Food Industries organized a successful trade mission to Uganda two years ago in collaboration with the Commercial Representation Office in Kampala and with the participation of more than 15 Egyptian companies, and they aim to repeat this mission again during the coming period.

Khairy also revealed that the council intends to organize a trade mission from May 15 to 19 to the Kingdom of Morocco with the participation of about 22 companies working in the food industries sector and 5 other companies operating in the field of packaging.

Tamer El-Dawwy, deputy CEO of the Export Council for Food Industries, explained that the food industries sector accounted for about 14% of Egypt's total exports in 2022, with total exports reaching around $4.1 billion and a growth rate of 5% compared to 2021.

Egypt has been working to expand its exports to African markets, especially after signing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The value of Egyptian exports to Africa during the first quarter of 2021 reached $1.857 billion, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year.
