The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, held a virtual conference to introduce the initiative's second edition.

The conference was attended by representatives from various governorates, ministries, and organizations, with the presence of Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Chair of the National Arbitration Committee for Smart Green Projects, Ambassador Hisham Badr, the National Coordinator of the Initiative and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Eng. Khaled Mostafa, the Permanent Representative of the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Hisham El-Halbawi, Assistant Minister of Local Development, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Environment, and the National Council for Women, and representatives from Egyptian governorates.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin praised the coordination among all entities that contributed to the unprecedented success of the initiative, commending the success achieved at the COP27 climate conference. He added that the overall objectives and purposes of the initiative are no less important than the initiative itself.

Mohieldin confirmed that the continuation of the initiative represents a global translation of the five dimensions that were evident at the Sharm El-Sheikh summit and the significant outcomes it produced.

He explained that the design of the initiative relied on three axes that included the climate-related and green economy dimension, the digital transformation dimension, and the dimension related to the impact on youth and women.

In his speech, Ambassador Hisham Badr said that representatives from ministries and governorates represent the main partners in the success of the initiative and one of the pillars of the success of its first edition. Their cooperation will contribute to achieving greater success in the second edition of the initiative.

He added that the initiative was able to achieve several gains, the most important of which is becoming one of the state's most prominent efforts to localize the Sustainable Development Goals by urging Egyptians in all governorates to think of solutions to climate change risks, especially those that are most vulnerable.

Badr explained that the initiative has received praise in several local and international forums, with the UN Secretary-General considering it a leading model for achieving sustainable development in Egypt.

The National Initiative for Smart Green Projects aims to increase awareness and create a conducive environment for the establishment of smart green projects to achieve sustainable development in Egypt.
